SAP BusinessObjects Design Studio can be defined as an Application Development Tool for creating advanced level Dashboards using SAP BW, HANA and Universe Data Sources.
It allows you to design applications and enter data manually in Crosstabs or you can also add data using planning objects while using SAP BW as the backend system. Applications developed in Design Studio can have real time connection to SAP HANA or the Business Warehouse System.
As showns as above figure
1) Analysis Edition for OLAP –
Ad hoc OLAP use case – BEex Web Analyzer “pivot tables to connect to BW data source”. BI 4.0 ships Analysis edition for OLAP which is for business analysts, data analysts, doing more advanced analysis on BW data. The Analysis OLAP client connects to other data sources such as MS Analysis Services. It is on the path to replace BEx Web Analyzer.
2) Analysis Edition for Office –
An Excel and PowerPoint add-in which has been out a year and every six months a new version is shipped. Office client caters to two use cases: 1) custom analytics – sophisticated Excel analytics planning applications 2) Ad-hoc client – Ad hoc OLAP client for business users. It is on the path to replace BEx Excel Analyzer scenarios
3) BEx Web Application Designer –
In BI 4.0, there is no replacement for Web Application Designer (WAD). BEx WAD is ported on BI Platform. With BI 4.0 you can deploy the runtime of BEx WAD on BI Platform.
SAP plans to ship Analysis, Edition for Application Design as an add-on to BI 4. This product will be a premium successor to WAD. The first release will not replace all the WAD scenarios. The plan is to ship iterations every 6 months; in 1-2 years hope to see customers move from WAD to Analysis Edition for Application Design.Over time this product will develop into a fully fledged premium alternative to BEx Web Application Designer.
